All for the Arts

You may have noticed something different at our Lafayette Street branch and business office.

Chesapeake Bank has sponsored the installation of two sculptures as part of the Williamsburg Arts District Association’s “This Glorious Earth” exhibit – in all 22 sculptures by 12 different artists have been or will be installed and on display for the next year to raise awareness of the arts district.

One of the pieces outside our Lafayette Street locations is “Tilt and Tumble” by North Carolina artist Matt Amante – the interlocking “C” shaped forms are constructed of powder-coated steel, and the sculpture is about 7-feet tall. The other is “Daddy Longlegs” by Pennsylvania artist John Parker – it’s constructed of steel plates and is nearly 11 feet tall and 8 feet wide.

Both pieces can be purchased (“Tilt and Tumble” for $2,500; “Daddy Longlegs” for $18,000) from the City of Williamsburg, which makes a gallery commission of up to 30 percent for any art that is sold during the exhibit.
